Two fatally shot outside abandoned bar in Channelview

Deputies are still searching for the gunman

HOUSTON – The search is on for a killer after two men were found shot to death in a building behind an abandoned bar in Channelview.

People who live nearby say they heard the old bar was being renovated into a new business.

When deputies arrived at the scene in the 16000 block of Market Street, there was a  sign out front that said "Under Construction - Kastles Place."

"I just have seen the sign that says under construction. I don't know if they are going to open it up as a game room or as a bar," said neighbor Daniel Figueroa.

He spends a lot of time at the American Legion on Market Street. He was surprised to hear that two people were shot and killed overnight just across the road.

"It is just a quiet neighborhood over here, not a whole lot happens over here," Figueroa said.

Harris County Sheriff's Office detectives say the property owner called 9-1-1 before midnight to report two people dead inside of a mobile home behind this old bar.

Neighbors in this area say they never knew what went on behind this wooden fence but have always questioned the activity they see in the parking area out front.

"Various vehicles would come in and out and I mean for them to be here no less than 5 or 10 minutes, and various vehicles that stop by not on a regular basis," says Edgar Mejia.

The Harris Co. Sheriff's Office says one of the victim's lived here and the other worked on the property. Neighbors are hoping deputies can solve this crime so things can go back to normal in this typically peaceful community.

Detectives haven't released the names of those two victims.
