HOUSTON – It's a change in the game for former Houston Rocket and seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady as he trades the basketball court for the baseball field.
McGardy has set his sights on being a baseball pitcher for the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Standing at 6 feet 8 inches tall and over 220 pounds, McGrady had an outstanding professional basketball career. He spent six of his 15 seasons in the NBA with the Rockets.
After graduating from high school, McGrady went to the NBA, but says baseball is his first love.
He has been working with Roger Clemens over the last few months in preparation for the independent league's season.
McGrady has been clocked at throwing 91 mph. His average pitch is in the mid 80s.
The 34-year-old still has work to do to become competitive in baseball, but there are still a few months to go before the start of the Skeeters' season.
The Skeeters have not signed McGrady yet, but say they want to give him a chance.
McGrady will be throwing for the first time in front of the media Wednesday afternoon at Constellation Field. Koby Clemens will be catching for him.
