Three dead in Conroe wreck

Police say intersection is deadly, dangerous

CONROE, Texas – A devastating accident left three people dead and one in the hospital in critical condition.

Around 7 a.m. Saturday morning, officials said a Honda Civic with four people inside pulled up to a stop sign FM 3083 from Avenue M extended in Conroe.

Investigators said the driver didn't yield the right of way before crossing, and a 1998 Dodge 2500 pickup slammed into the Honda, ripping it open and ejecting one passenger into the woods.

Conroe police said that passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said the two back-seat passengers were also killed in the accident.

The driver of the Honda, Misael Esquibel, 19, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Esquibel's passengers, Alexander Moreno, 24, Jose Aurelio Cantaerero Benitez, 48, and David Mejia Bonilla, 22, were pronounced dead on the scene

Conroe police said the intersection where the accident happened is dangerous. Two crosses marking other fatal accidents already mark the scene.

Investigators said they took a blood sample from the driver of the truck to test for alcohol, but could find no signs of intoxication. He walked away from the accident with only a scratch on  his face, police said.
