Teen shot at girl's birthday party in north Houston

HOUSTON – An 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital Saturday night after deputies say he was shot by a group of teens at another teen's birthday party in north Houston.

The party took place near Gaston Street and Illene Street. Deputy Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff's Office said three teens showed up to the party uninvited and when they were asked to leave, a fight broke out at the front door.

After the teens left the party, Gilliland said they came back with a gun and started shooting. The 18-year-old man was shot through his hand and into his chest.

"It was shocking," said Alfredo Valdez, who attended the party. "People were in the back enjoying music and they see a person get shot, then everybody started going crazy."

A person at the party followed the trio after they left the scene and drove to an apartment complex off Imperial Valley. When they arrived, deputies took them into custody.

"They would have gotten away," Valdez said.

The 18-year-old was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in serious but stable condition. Gilliland said the teen will survive.
