SWAT team takes down man with butcher knives in SW Houston

2-hour ordeal ends with rubber bullets, taser, and pepper spray

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department's SWAT team took down a man who was trying to force his way into his mother's apartment.

Police were called out to a home on Synott Road and Westpark Drive about 2 a.m. Thursday.

Vincent Gatson, who holding two butcher knives on the balcony, was threatening his mother, who was locked inside her apartment, and trying to force his way inside it, police said.

Gatson refused to surrender, so officers called in the SWAT team. The SWAT team spent two hours negotiating with him.

During that time, the team was using a ladder to get into the other side of the apartment to free his mother.

The SWAT team took her place inside the apartment, and used rubber bullets, pepper spray, and a taser to subdue Gatson when he forced his way inside, police said.
