Suspected copper thief caught red-handed in SW Houston

HOUSTON – Police say they caught a copper thief red-handed in southwest Houston.

Houston police arrived at the CenterPoint Energy substation, located on Westpark Drive near Wakeforest Avenue, around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say they found that someone had cut a hole in the fence that surrounds the facility. Soon after, police say they found the man who they say is responsible for cutting several wires throughout the substation.

No word yet on charges or the suspect's name.
