Store clerk shot during robbery

Suspects escape with cash

HOUSTON – Two or three men robbed a northeast Houston convenience store and shot the store's clerk.

Around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said as many as three men wearing ski masks entered a store at 1727 Berry Street. The crooks held the store clerk at gunpoint and then shot him in the leg, investigators said.  They then grabbed the cash register drawer and took off running on foot.

Houston police set up a perimeter and used K-9 units to search the area.

"The suspects ran east of the location," said Lt. Adrian Conejo with the Houston Police Department.  "We [had] K-9 and ground trying to pick up a scent of the suspects.  They left on foot, and [we're] just trying to see if [we] can find them."

The investigation is ongoing, and Conejo said officers are looking at the store's surveillance tape.

Emergency officials transported the store clerk to the hospital in stable condition.
