Stolen pickup truck used in smash-and-grab

Surveillance video shows suspects using a stolen pickup truck

HOUSTON – A stolen pickup truck was used Monday for a smash-and-grab burglary in northeast Houston.

Investigators said two men used a stolen black pickup to repeatedly slam into the front of a convenience store and gas station on Mesa Drive and Linda Vista Drive around 2 a.m. Surveillance video showed the pickup take several passes at the store before police arrived on scene.

A police unit on patrol spotted the suspects in the act of smashing into the store. When police approached the crooks, they went their separate ways. The driver drove off, but lost control of the pickup and hit a tree. He was arrested.

The man in the passenger seat bailed out of the truck and started running. After a foot chase with officers, he got away.

Police said the suspects never made it into the store, so there was no theft.

Damage estimates were not released.
