South Houston, TX - The South Houston City Council voted to keep its police chief.
After weeks of speculation that Chief Herbert Gilbert would be forced out of his job, Tuesday night the council voted to keep him.
"I'm ready to get back to doing what I do and that's lead the police department," said Gilbert.
However, Mayor Joe Soto said this doesn't mean he won't be kept under tight scrutiny.
Mayor Soto said Chief Gilbert has a bad record of handling certain type of complaints correctly and had low traffic ticket revenue.
"I didn't vote. The council had the vote," said Soto.
The council said it will be keeping a close eye on him throughout the rest of the year.
