Semi-truck leaking fluid shuts down main westbound lanes of US-290

Authorities believe product leaking could be diesel fuel

HOUSTON – Officials said a hazmat spill shut down the main westbound lanes of US-290 at Pinemont for hours on Monday. A semi-truck carrying hazardous materials was leaking some kind of product.

Houston Fire Department officials said an 18-wheeler was traveling on Highway 290 Monday at 7:30 p.m. when it was stopped by authorities after they noticed some type of diesel fuel leaking from the semi-truck.. HFD sent out a fire engine, a booster truck and hazmat truck.

Texas Department of Transportation officials said sand was put on the product.

The freeway was reopened by 10:15 p.m.
