Security guard's killing caught on tape

Pedro Depena shot, killed in southeast Houston

HOUSTON – Investigators are searching for the men who shot and killed a security guard on Saturday night.

Houston police said a group of men tried to walk into the Evergreen Game Room at 1501 Evergreen Drive and Hemlock at about 11:30 p.m.

Detectives said the security guard, Pedro Depena, met them at the door and tried to stop them from coming in. One of the suspects pulled Depena into the parking lot, pushed him to the ground and shot him in the head, killing him instantly, police said.

"He intervened and as a result, lost his life. And then of course the robbery did not take place." said Homicide Detective Ramon Cervantes.

The gunman then walked into the game room and looked around before fleeing the scene. The entire incident was caught on surveillance cameras. Investigators said that witnesses saw the two intruders meet two other men while running away.

Detectives said they are looking for four men, including a black male in his mid-20s who can be seen in the surveillance video. The shooter was described as 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 160 pounds with a medium-brown skin tone. He was wearing dark-colored shorts, a T-shirt, tennis shoes and a ball cap.

If you know anything about this crime, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
