SEABROOK – Most of southeast Texas is seeing an increase in mosquitoes due to recent rain, high humidity and warm temperatures, so the City of Seabrook has started spraying for the insects.
Public Works began spraying citywide on Thursday.
The city said it will continue to spray on Friday and Saturday nights for the remainder of the mosquito season.
City officials said Seabrook has one of the most aggressive mosquito control programs in Harris County. Â
It usually takes ten days following a plentiful rain for mosquito larvae to develop into mosquitoes.                         Â
To help curb the mosquito problem experts suggest:
• Avoid being outdoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are more active
• Wear clothing that covers most of your skin
• Use repellents, specifically ones that contain DEET
• Check around your home to rid areas of standing water, which is where mosquitoes can lay their eggs .
• Keep weeds and grass cut
