HOUSTON - Four men are on the run after they broke into a Fiesta grocery store with a sledgehammer, police said.
Officials say employees were stocking the shelves and cleaning at the store on Fulton Street in north Houston when they heard glass breaking around 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Employees ran for cover.
Among them was Francisco Davila. He says he witnessed the whole thing.
"The first thing I did was call the cops and waited for the cops to come," said Davila.
Police say the four thieves targeted a display case in the front of the store and took cell phones and cigarettes.
Because employees called 911 so quickly, officers arrived on scene while the thieves were still on the property.
Officers say the suspects had a stolen car waiting in the parking lot, but did not have time to use it. Instead, they ran from the scene.
Police say the stolen car was a gold, four-door sedan with Louisiana license plates.
Investigators say the thieves were wearing masks, so witnesses were not able to give them good descriptions.
Police were looking at surveillance video to see if it could give them more clues as they try to identify the four robbers.
