HOUSTON - A sycamore tree in the Houston Heights was one of the largest in Harris County until it was cut down.
The two-day process to remove the tree started Monday at the corner of Oxford and 23rd.
Neighbors in the Heights were devastated that this tree, estimated at more than 75-feet tall and over 100 years old, was being chopped down.
According to the City of Houston, there was nothing it could do to stop the cutting because the sycamore tree was on private property.
The only way for neighbors to save the tree was to change the city ordinance; but, time was out for this one.
Workers will finish cutting the tree down on Tuesday.
