Rain brings early end to Ballunar Festival

HOUSTON – Heavy rain and predicted high winds prompted officials to call an early end to the Re/Max Ballunar Festival.

The event was scheduled to last through the weekend at the Johnson Space Center, but officials said they closed it Saturday at 4 p.m. due to public safety concerns.

"While we experience occasional lapses in rainfall, all our sources point to more precipitation on the immediate horizon, and the potential safety hazards to guests was too great, in our judgement, to continue," said festival spokesperson Mike Sumerlin.

Officials with the event said the festival will not reopen on Sunday.
