Police investigating alleged rape of Cleveland teen

CLEVELAND – Police are investigating the alleged rape of a teenage girl in Cleveland.

Cleveland police say they received a complaint Tuesday from the parents of a 15-year-old girl who they alleged to have been sexually assaulted over the weekend.

Investigators say they are in the preliminary stages of their investigation and are searching for a possible crime scene and any leads that could assist with their investigation. They declined to give specifics, but said the alleged sexual assault involved more than one perpetrator.

Cleveland police said they are working with the victim and her family to gather all facts and evidence.

Police say the 15-year-old girl went to a Houston hospital to seek medical treatment.

The allegations come nearly three years after the 2010 gang rape of an 11-year-old girl in an abandoned mobile home in Cleveland. A total of 21 men and juveniles were arrested in that case. Twenty have since been convicted.

As news of the latest allegations spread, many said they were reminded of the earlier case.

"I don't know what it is about Cleveland that this is what puts us on the map. It disgusts me," said resident Cindy Wood.
