Police: Carjacker pushes teen from moving vehicle

Car found abandoned in Houston

LA MARQUE, Texas – Police said a teenager was pushed from a moving vehicle while trying to stop a carjacking.

Around 6:30 a.m. Monday, police in La Marque said Marilou Fernando went to the Walmart in the 6400 block of I-45 with her two children, ages 4 and 15.

Police said Fernando took her youngest child inside, but left the teen, Anthony Chhay, in the car with the engine running.

At some point, police said a man jumped in the driver's seat. Anthony tried to grab the key, but the man wouldn't hand it over.

"He was saying that my mom wanted me inside Walmart and that he would give the key to her," Anthony said.

Anthony jumped out, but decided to jump back into the vehicle to try and stop the crook, police said.

Investigators said the thief drove off, pushing Anthony out while the vehicle was in motion.

"He comes storming in and he looked like he was shocked," Fernando said. "He was saying, 'Mom, somebody just stole the car.'"

Anthony was not hurt, but the carjacker did manage to escape, police said.

The vehicle was later found abandoned near Sabo Road and Fuqua, officials said.

Fernando said a pocketknife was found in the car .
