Plane makes emergency landing in Pearland

55-year-old pilot taken by helicopter to hospital

PEARLAND, Texas – A pilot had to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff in Pearland when an engine went out on his plane.

The incident happened just before 4 p.m. Sunday.

Officials said the plane had just taken off from the Pearland Regional Airport when an engine on the plane went out.

Investigators said the 55-year-old pilot tried to return to the airport, but ended up hitting several trees and crashed.

The pilot was the only person on board the plane when it crashed, and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The cause of the engine failure is under investigation.
