Oil spill shuts down Southwest Freeway

SOUTHWEST HOUSTON – An oil spill shut down part of the Southwest Freeway Sunday morning.

Police say a motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran into the back end of the car around 2:45 a.m.  The motorcycle rider was transported to the hospital in stable condition.  The people in the car were not hurt.

As police were investigating the accident, a Kroger 18-wheeler ran over the motorcycle.  The motorcycle got lodged under the 18-wheeler.  The 18-wheeler dragged the motorcycle for about 300 yards leaking oil the entire way.

The northbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway from Buffalo Speedway to Shepherd were shut down for several hours so Hazmat crews could clean up the spill.
