Officer shoots dog during attack

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer shot a dog that attacked him while he responded to a 911 call in northeast Houston Tuesday.

Around 5:30 a.m. an HPD officer arrived at a house on Dogwood Tree Street and Old Creek Road. According to reports, as the officer talked to the homeowners, their dog attacked the officer.  The officer pulled out his weapon and shot the dog.  The dog was seriously injured and limped off.

The officer tried to catch the dog, but could not keep up with it. 

The officer said he does not know if the dog will survive the gunshot wound.

No other information was released.
