NASSAU BAY, Texas - Officials did not report any injuries after an early morning fire at a hotel near Johnson Space Center.

Officials said the fire forced the evacuation of about 300 guests and staff from the 14-story building.

Nassau Bay fire Chief Tom George said the fire was reported shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday at the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake.

George said an automatic alarm from a smoke detector summoned emergency personnel to a second-floor laundry room. George said a sprinkler system put out the small fire.

Officials said guests and Hilton staff were evacuated for about two hours as the smoke dissipated and fire crews restored the sprinkler and elevator systems.

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze. No damage estimate has been released.
