Missing Houston girl, 7, found safe

The little girl was reunited with her Mom on Tuesday afternoon

HOUSTON – Authorities say a missing 7-year-old Houston girl was found safe and reunited with her mom Tuesday afternoon.

Local 2's Camille Williams reported the girl was seen outside an apartment building by neighbors who then picked her up and carried her to police. Mother and daughter were reunited a short time later.

Police said Meleiaha Ratliff had gone missing around 11 p.m. Monday from the Coral Gables apartment complex located in 10500 block of Beechnut.

Her mother, Binta Ratliff, told Local 2 that Meleiaha was at a friend's house playing Monday night. She says Meleiaha went back home, but the door was locked so she went back to her friend's house and spent the night.

Her mother said she knows the other family and  there are no hard feelings; she's just glad her little girl is home. She plans to take Meleiaha to the hospital to be checked out.

The mother said she plans to change her daughter's curfew -- which had previously been 9 p.m.

Police said no charges will be filed at this time.

Police searched overnight and checked the apartments where Meleiaha's friends live. Texas Equusearch was also called in to help with the search.

Camille Williams will have more on the girl's safe return coming up on Local 2 News at 4 and 6.
