METRO bus, rail detours announced for this weekend

Schedule will temporarily change this weekend for implosion of Macy's downtown building

HOUSTON – METRO riders should be aware that there will be temporary service shutdowns and detours this weekend due to the implosion of the downtown Macy's building.

The 10-story structure, located at 1110 Main, is scheduled to come down 10 minutes past sunrise on Sunday.

The METRORail shutdowns and detours start Friday at 9 p.m. as crews begin preparing the implosion site, which is adjacent to the rail line and its Main Street Square Station.

METRO will shut down the entire 7.5-mile light-rail line Friday night so electrical lines and poles on its southbound tracks can be removed or secured.

Riders will be served by shuttle buses running between Fannin South and UH-Downtown.

METRORail is expected to be running again by Monday.

Fourteen bus routes will be detoured throughout the downtown area on Sunday. METRO staff will be on hand to assist with transfers. Travel on the following routes will require extra time:
