HOUSTON – Houston police are searching for the armed robbers who sent a pair of McDonald's employees running for safety in north Houston.
Authorities said two people drove up to a drive-thru window, and one of them got out of the car with a gun and demanded money.
"Crazy, scary," said customer Catalina Quizada.
At around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, a man and woman posing as customers pulled up to the McDonald's drive-thru window in a light blue SUV. While the woman pretended to pay, the man jumped out of the car and ran up to the window, pointing a gun at the employee.
The 24-year-old employee saw the gun and ran into the freezer with her co-worker and pressed the panic button.
"I wouldn't want to go through that, and I would never think that would happen here at this McDonald's, since I always come here, it is so calm," says Quizada.
The gunman tried to get inside through the window, but it was locked. He and the woman drove away with nothing. When Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived, the suspects were gone. A deputy had to climb through the drive-thru window to get inside and let the employees out of the freezer.
This happened less than a month after another McDonalds' in north Houston was targeted by thieves. On November 22, three armed men crawled through the McDonald's drive-thru off of FM 249 near 1960 and attacked an employee while demanding cash. Shots were fired, but no one was hurt.
Police are still looking for the three men in the video and the two people from Thursday's attempted robbery.
If you recognize the men in that surveillance video or know who is responsible for Thursday's attempted armed robbery, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
