SEABROOK – A deputy-involved shooting is under investigation in Seabrook.
The Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office said deputies were called to assist Seabrook police just before midnight Monday after witnesses reported seeing a man firing a gun.

Upon arrival to the area near Todville Road and 2nd Street, deputies found the man, later identified as 21-year-old Denzel Smith, standing in waist-deep water and holding a pistol in his right hand.
Authorities secured the area and after about 30 minutes of trying to get Smith to surrender, police said Smith turned towards them and pointed the gun in their direction.
That's when a Precinct 8 deputy, fearing for his life and the safety of others, fired one round from his rifle, the constable's office said. Smith was hit in his left shoulder and dropped the gun in the water. He eventually surrendered to authorities.
Smith was taken by ambulance to Ben Taub General Hospital with what was described as a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
No other injuries were reported during the incident.
Authorities said Smith may face criminal charges which will be determined by the district attorney's office.
The constable's office said the deputy who fired the shot has been placed on routine administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.
