HOUSTON - Inbound lanes of the North Freeway were closed for nearly three hours Monday morning after a man was hit and killed by a car in north Houston.
According to police, the man was hit at around 1 a.m. while walking in the moving lanes of I-45 near Cavalcade Street. Police say witnesses reported seeing the man swinging crutches at cars.
Police say the driver drove to a nearby neighborhood and called for help after he hit the man. According to police, he returned to the scene a short time later and did not appear to be intoxicated.
The 53-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office will determine the driver's charges after an investigation.
