Man stabbed to death at Texans watch party

HPD: Suspect fled the scene

HOUSTON – A man was stabbed to death at a Houston Texans watch party Sunday night in northeast Houston, police said.

Houston police said Gerardo Lopez, 20, was at a home on McEwen Street and Cavalcade Street around 10 p.m. when a fight broke out between two groups of neighbors.

"I guess the drinking, cussing ... one came over to my brother and stabbed him to death," said Lopez's sister, Maria.

Fatal stabbing

Lopez's family rushed him to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died.

Laura Duran said she has a child with Lopez. She said it's heartbreaking that her daughter will grow up without her father.

"My daughter won't have anybody to walk her down the aisle, see her grow, go to school," Duran said. "She don't get that no more because they took his life away."

The killer fled the scene, police said.

"Please turn yourself in," Duran said. "You don't know how many lives you ruined."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
