PASADENA - Police are searching for two suspects after a man riding a bicycle through a Pasadena neighborhood was shot during a robbery Thursday morning.
It happened around 9: 20 a.m. near the intersection of Palos Verde and Watters Road.
Pasadena police said the victim, believed to be in his early 20s, was riding his bicycle when he was approached by two Hispanic men in a small, maroon or red vehicle that may have been a Toyota. A neighbor's surveillance cameras captured the sound of two gunshots and just moments later, a four door vehicle speeding away from the neighborhood.
Police said the two suspects demanded that the victim give them his cell phone and money. An altercation took place and the suspects hit the man in the head with a pistol and then shot him in the shoulder.
Trey Carter, a neighbor, told Local 2 he called 911 after he heard gunshots and the victim knocked on his door. He then went outside to help the victim, talking to him until help arrived.
"I asked him if he knew the people, and he said no, he'd never seen them before. He was riding his bike on the main road here and they came up in front of him and asked for his phone, and he said he wouldn't give it to them," said Carter.
The victim was transported by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.
"Apparently he was shot in the neck and the bullet exited below his right shoulder blade," said Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department.
Pasadena police had the neighborhood near Watters Road Church of Christ blocked off while officers conducted their investigation.
