Man shot, killed in southeast Houston

Police want to talk to woman who was with victim just before shooting

HOUSTON – A man visiting a friend in southeast Houston was shot to death after a fight.

Homicide detectives said the man was visiting with some friends at a home on Martin Luther King Boulevard near Pershing Street at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when there was an altercation between the victim and another man, according to Houston Homicide Detective Bart Oxspring.

The man pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times.

"Indications are he was shot on the sidewalk and may have staggered over to the median, where HFD worked on him and transported him," Oxspring said.

The victim was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect ran from the scene.

"The deceased may have been hanging out with some friends in the neighborhood behind here. We have reports he (the victim) may have been with one identified female friend who we are still trying to track down," Oxspring said.

Officials said they believe that woman may be able to help them identify the gunman.

Oxspring said officers have talked with friends and witnesses, but none of them were able to provide an accurate description of the killer.

A motive for the shooting has not been released.
