Man dies after being robbed, shot

Claude Lamont Kibbie crashed into apartment after shooting, robbery

HOUSTON – A man died after he was robbed, shot and crashed his car into a northeast Houston apartment with a mother and her 4-year-old daughter inside.

Chantel Davis said she was inside her apartment on Crofton and Trudy around 10 p.m. Wednesday when she heard a loud noise.

"My daughter was in her room in the back and we heard four gunshots, and I said,' OK, y'all, let's move,'" Davis said.

That's when authorities said a dark blue Taurus barreled through her living room wall.

Police said Claude Lamont Kibbie, 33, had been approached by two suspects demanding cash as he was driving. According to investigators, the suspects fired several shots during the robbery.

The man was shot in the back of the head, causing him to hit his gas pedal and slam into Davis' apartment, police said. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he later died.

Residents helped Davis board up the hole. She's also moving into another apartment.

Davis said that while her apartment is in shambles, her pain is nothing compared to what Kibbie's family is going through.

"My things can be replaced," Davis said. "My heart goes out to his family."

Homicide detectives said several young males were seen talking to the victim before the shooting and then witnesses said they saw the same men running away after the driver was shot.

No one has been apprehended.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.\
