Man, child injured after truck flips over into bayou

HOUSTON – A man and a child were transported to the hospital after his truck crashed into a bayou in north Houston.

The accident happened on Cavalcade at Hunting Bayou around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Jalien Noel was across the street at the time and ran to help.

"I heard like a bang, like a truck. I thought it was a wreck," said Noel.

Noel said she saw the driver and little girl, both ejected from the flipped truck near the ditch.

"I got in and held her neck still because if she moved, she could have injured herself more so I just held her neck still," said Noel.

A few minutes later, paramedics arrive.

Houston police say the single vehicle crash happened when the driver lost control after hitting a curb. The truck slammed into the barrier and ended up in the ditch, just feet away from the bayou.

According to police, the man was high on drugs and his 4-year-old daughter was not in a car seat.

The man and the child were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"It made me sick to see something like this, this time of year because everybody needs their family members," said Damian Thomas, a witness.

Police say charges are pending.
