Man arrested after southwest Houston chase

Driver found hiding under cars in a parking lot

HOUSTON – A man was arrested after he led police on a chase through southwest Houston early Tuesday morning, investigators said.

Police said the driver and his passenger had just left a nightclub when an officer spotted them driving with their headlights off on Willowbend Boulevard near South Post Oak Road.

Around 1 a.m., the officer tried to pull them over, but the driver sped off.

After the driver ran several red lights, the vehicle got a flat tire on the South Loop near South Main Street, police said. The driver bailed out in a gas station parking lot and ran to a neighboring parking lot, but officers said they found him hiding under some cars a few minutes later.

The passenger remained in the vehicle.

The driver will face evading arrest charges, police said. He was also being tested to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

It was unclear if the passenger will be charged with anything.
