GALVESTON, Texas - A mailman who was checking outgoing mail at a Galveston apartment complex found a suspicious package that turned out to be a homemade explosive.
The mailman reported the suspicious package to police about 4:30 p.m. Monday. Officers responded to the scene at the Ashton Place Apartments on Lasker and called in the Texas City Regional Bomb Squad.
Using robots and bomb technicians, the device was collected and sent in for forensic analysis. Officials determined that it was a homemade explosive.
The device did not detonate during the retrieval operation, and no one was injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
