KIPP Sunnyside High teacher accused of sexually assaulting student

HOUSTON – A Houston high school teacher is under investigation over allegations of sexually assaulting a student.

A male teacher, who just started working at KIPP Sunnyside High School last month, has been placed on leave after allegations of sexual misconduct with a female student. Officials at the charter school say it was brought to their attention on Monday when someone in the community notified the principal.

"We conducted an internal review, we placed the teacher on administrative leave, we called the Houston Police Department and Child Protective Services," said Superintendent Sehba Ali.

Ali says they notified parents of the situation Thursday when they sent a letter home -- three days after they first found out about it.

"We feel we are notifying parents appropriately," said Ali.

Ali wouldn't discuss any other details about the alleged  misconduct out of concern for the student.

In the letter sent home to parents, school officials are asking anyone with information about the situation to come forward and contact the principal.
