Jury deliberating in trial of ex-officer accused in teen beating

Closing arguments wrapped up Tuesday morning in the teen beating trial of Drew Ryser

HOUSTON – Closing arguments wrapped up Tuesday morning in the teen beating trial of former Houston Police Officer Drew Ryser and jurors are now deliberating.

On Friday, the defense wrapped up testimony including putting on its final witness. Two paid experts testified for the former HPD officer saying Ryser did not use excessive force in the arrest of teen burglar Chad Holley.

Former Texas Ranger Sergeant Jess Malone said Holley showed a high level of resistance and that Ryser was following training by striking Holley with his hands, knees and feet to try to stun and distract him.

If convicted, Ryser could spent up to one year in jail.

Ryser was one of four Houston police officers involved in the arrest of Holley back in 2010.
