Houston police search for driver who left the northeast Houston scene

The driver, a man his 20s, skidded into a wooden power pole.  He hit a fence and ended up in a backyard, just inches from a home.

"The driver is going to be our suspect at this time," Sgt. Ignacio Izaguirre said. "(We) believe he was a friend to both of the passengers and he tried to help the deceased out of the vehicle but once he found out he was dead, he (the driver) fled the scene on foot."

Officers said the 17-year-old backseat passenger died on impact.

The passenger in the front seat survived the crash.

He was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.  He is expected to survive.

If and when the driver is arrested, police said he will face multiple charges including hit-and-run and possibly manslaughter.
