HPD: Robbers with babies in car lead police on chase in Midtown

Investigators: Robbers had two babies in car as they fled

HOUSTON – Houston police say Thursday night that charges had not yet been filed against three people found inside an SUV after a robbery and police chase.

The chase started on Pacific near Grant in Montrose and ended in Midtown at Webster and Bagby, according to officials.

Police say someone called from a location near Montrose and Westheimer and reported two robberies at around 11:30 Wednesday night. Houston police say an off-duty officer responded and told the driver of a silver Dodge Nitro to stop.

According to police, the driver did not stop and instead took off with a passenger firing a gun at the officer, with at least one shot hitting the officer's car.

The Dodge Nitro SUV was finally stopped at Webster and Bagby. Three people were arrested. As of Thursday night, police were still looking for a fourth man, who sources tell Local 2 has been identified.

Officers say a police dog tracked his scent to the METRO train.

When the chase ended, police say they found two little girls in the SUV.

Sgt. Larry Crowson, of the Houston Police Department said, "I'm sure officers will consult with the DA to see if they want to put child endangerment since they did have children in the car while they were out robbing people."

Police say the two little girls were released to relatives.

Stolen cell phones and wallets were found inside the getaway vehicle, according to police.

No one was hurt.
