Man who was shot is expected to survive

HOUSTON – One man is custody and another is in the hospital after police said they led officers on a short foot chase in the Third Ward of southeast Houston.

According to Houston police, the officer was a member of the gang division.

He was on a regular patrol with another officer around 12:30 a.m. Thursday when they stopped to talk to two men on Hadley Street. The men, later identified as 24-year-old Hardy Moore and 20-year-old Damarcus Gibson, ran off.

"The officers began chasing the suspects on foot," said Kese Smith with HPD. "The suspects split up in different directions and so did the officers."

Police said Moore pulled out a gun and pointed it at Officer J. Rosemon.

Officer Rosemon fired his weapon hitting the suspect twice.

Moore was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gibson was found by a K9 unit. He was taken downtown for questioning.

Houston police said Moore faces a charge of aggravated assault against a public servant. Gibson faces an evading arrest charge.

According to Houston police, Officer J. Rosemon has been on the force since December 2010.

According to HPD protocol, the officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
