HPD: Man fatally shoots crowbar-wielding woman at NW Houston apartments

The man inside heard a noise and fired three shots through the door

HOUSTON – An apartment resident fired through a door and killed a crowbar-wielding woman in northwest Houston.

The woman's body was discovered Tuesday morning on Hollister and Pine Grove.

Police still haven't identified the woman who was killed. Her body was found on the sidewalk outside the Wilshire Place apartments on Hollister Street and Tidwell Road.

"You live in a place where you think it is safe and this happens. You're kinda like, wow, what's next? Probably time to go," said resident Reginald Lewis.

Detectives say the woman was trying to break into one of the apartments through the front door. A 23-year-old man inside heard the noise and fired three shots through the door. At least one of them hit the woman.

"She had a crow bar on her person, but at this point we don't know why and we spoke with the homeowners and they don't know her and they don't know why," said  Sgt. Thomas Simmons with the Houston Police Department.

Her identity and motive still remain a mystery. And her death now has some in this neighborhood are questioning their personal safety.

"We have been here over ten years and never had a problem like this, never," Lewis said.

Local 2 learned that the complex has 24-hour security.

The guards in charge at the time of the murder were interviewed by police.

Detectives have not revealed if anyone has been arrested in this case.
