According to court documents, Davis and his grandmother got into an argument on June 11 after she found out he had pawned her gold ring. She insisted on going to the pawnshop with him so she could try to retrieve her property, but learned he had actually sold it.

During the ride home, Davis' devastated grandmother told him he needed to gather his things and move out. The grandmother said when they pulled into the drive way, Davis got out of the passenger seat, positioned himself over her, then began punching her in the face and head. He struck her at least five times.

The grandmother said not only does she suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, but she also had brain surgery for an aneurysm in 2003.
