When they arrived on scene, officers saw a red pickup backed up to a gas pump used to fill up construction equipment on the scene.

When the thieves saw police, they ran.  Police chased them, but were not able to catch them.

Upon further investigation, police discovered the burglars lifted the fence gate off of its hinges to get into the site.

They were in the process of filling up a 500 gallon plastic tank in the back of the pickup when they were interrupted by police.

The gas they were trying to steal would have cost thousands.

Police hope the pickup will help them track down the people involved in the attempted burglary.

Officials said they ran the pickup's license plate, but so far it has not reported stolen.
