HPD: 6 Children lose parents in murder-suicide

HOUSTON – Six children were orphaned after their parents died in a murder-suicide on Sunday, police said.

Houston police said operators received multiple 911 calls just seconds after the 10:30 p.m. shootings at a home on Defender Street and Calloway Street.

"It appears it's going to be a husband and a wife.  We don't know who the shooter will be," said Kim Meek of the Houston Police Department.

Investigators said Sharman Ford, 33, fatally shot Lashandra Washington, 34, before killing himself.

Neighbors said the couple had six children, the oldest being 15. Officials said some of the children were home when the murder-suicide happened, but they're being cared for by relatives.

Police said they were called out to the home to quell a family disturbance on March 5. Officials have not said what sparked the murder-suicide.
