Houston Veterans Day events

HOUSTON – We've compiled a list of events around Houston on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2013.

City of Houston's Annual "Houston Salutes American Heroes"
Festivities begin at 10am at Hermann Square with the AT&T Veterans Job Fair and the Walgreens Veterans Health Fair. The ceremony will take place at 11am on the steps of City Hall. A moment of silence will be observed at 11 a.m., in memory of the WWI signing of the Armistice. Then at 12:30, the American Heroes Parade sponsored by H-E-B kicks off. Free parking is available from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Theater District Parking, entrances #2 and #5 only.

Operation 11-11 at Minute Maid Park
Sponsored by the Houston Astros and the Texas Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, this event will honor all veterans and show the inspirational documentary "Honor Flight: One Last Mission" in Minute Maid Park. Begins at 11 a.m.

Rice University Veterans Day Celebration
The event in an exterior courtyard of the campus student center is open to the public and will include guest speakers and the Rice Symphonic Band playing patriotic tunes.

Baytown Veterans Day Ceremony
Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Plaza at 1001 Market Street, in front of Bicentennial Park.

Battleship Texas Flag Raising Ceremony
The Battleship Texas Foundation will raise/lower about 50 flags which will then be given to the surviving members of the Crew of the Battleship Texas next March.
