Houston man sues Latin pop star Paulina Rubio

HOUSTON - A Houston man has filed a lawsuit against Latin pop star Paulina Rubio after he said the singer attacked him and took his camera following a flight from Miami to Houston.

Hector Vela -- a freelance journalist and photographer -- said he spotted Rubio on April 26 on an early morning United Airlines flight. Vela said when the plane landed, he asked Rubio if he could take her picture.

Vela said she didn't respond, so he snapped a photo. That's when he said Rubio got upset and attacked him. He said the singer kicked him in the groin and got away with his camera.

"The camera itself isn't what's really valuable," said Vela.  "But the content of those cameras, which was the purpose of the trip, is now gone."

The lawsuit sought $75,000 in monetary relief.

Vela's attorneys also applied for a temporary restraining order that would require Rubio to preserve the camera -- and its photos -- throughout the court proceedings.
