HFD is encouraging the community to come out and show support by donating blood in the four firefighters' honor.

Thanks to Community for Life donors, blood was readily available for the injured firefighters on May 31.

By donating blood, the community can help ensure that a healthy blood supply is readily available for all patients, including Capt. William Dowling, who remains in the hospital in serious condition from the motel fire.

To participate in the drive, go to any Neighborhood Donor Center location and tell the staff you'd like to donate in honor of the firefighter.

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center must collect 1,000 donations daily to meet the need in the 26-county region.

The blood center is asking patients to Commit for Life, by taking three easy steps:

  • Donate blood once per quarter
  • Allow the blood center to contact you
  • Spread the word and encourage others to Commit for life

No patients or donors will receive credit or payment for blood donations.
