Houston dog owner faces animal cruelty charges

Harris Co. District Attorney's Office says she failed to care for her three dogs

HOUSTON – A Houston dog owner is accused of failing to care for her three animals and submitting them to cruel conditions.

Rosa Martinez, 57, was arrested Monday and charged with animal cruelty for failing to care for her three dogs. One of the dogs, a brown and tan Maltese and Poodle mix, was seriously injured. The dog's front left foot had exposed bones and the right rear leg was rotted and had partially fallen off.

Martinez's two other dogs suffered from chronic ear infections, staph infections, sores, and inadequate weight. They were released to Red Collar Rescue to obtain additional treatment.

Martinez is charged with two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals. She posted $1,500 bond on each case. Her next court date is November 8.
