Houston-area school district police first in country to carry pepper guns

The guns are designed to be less than lethal, which can be a necessity on school campuses

HOUSTON – Two Houston-area school districts are the first and second in the country to have school district police carry pepper guns, according to the gun's manufacturer.

The pepper gun, also called JPX Cobra 450, is twice as powerful as pepper spray and more accurate.

Ron Teeters, the director of sales and training of JPX America, says it will hit you in the face and you will feel it two or three seconds later.

"It's like shaving cream, something like that, but the burn is something else," Teeters said.

The contents are designed to be less than lethal, which can be a necessity on school campuses.

In Spring and Humble ISD, the district police now have another option if trouble erupts in school.
