HOUSTON - A man is in custody after leading Houston Independent School District and Houston police officers on a short chase in northeast Houston.

An HISD spokesperson tells Local 2 that the chase started after the driver plowed into another car in front of Sam Houston High School.

Investigators say the HISD officer tried to stop the man but he took off. The man eventually abandoned his car and took off running on Jensen Drive near King Street.

He was caught a short time later. School officials say the HISD officer had to be taken to a nearby hospital after overexerting himself while chasing the man on foot.
