HISD high school students awarded tablets for perfect attendance

HOUSTON – Students at a Houston ISD high school received a special award for having perfect attendance.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office and CITGO Petroleum Corporation joined together to reward Madison High School students who haven't missed any class with Kindle Fire tablets.

It's all part of the collaborative program "Kindling Young Minds."

"A majority of daytime crime is done by juveniles. Students who show up for class and stay to learn are more likely to end up being law-abiding citizens," Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said. "Educating our youth leads to public safety."

Tuesday's event marked the third giveaway for 2014.
