Person killed in San Antonio sinkhole identified as Bexar County deputy

SAN ANTONIO – A woman who was killed Sunday when a sinkhole formed in southwest San Antonio was identified Monday as a part-time Bexar County deputy.

The sinkhole formed about 5:30 p.m. in the 8400 block of Quintana Road.

According to KSAT-TV, a motorist who drove into the 10-foot-deep hole was rescued by witnesses, but when officials arrived, they discovered the submerged car of Deputy Dora Linda (Solis) Nishihara.

Crews found Nishihara's body inside the car Monday.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family," Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau said in a statement.

Pamerleau said Nishihara worked as a reserve deputy from August 2009 to October 2016, when she became a part-time deputy at the Bexar County Courthouse.

More than 6 inches of rain had fallen in the San Antonio area by Monday morning. Investigators blamed the heavy rain and the rupture of a 96-inch sewer pipe for the hole.
